Testimonial of A Young Boy I Helped (The case of a 15 year old black runaway living and sleeping in a local parking garage).
- A 15 yr old boy was living and sleeping
in a local parking garage. My youngest son informed me of his situation. I
got the local police involved in the matter. He did not want to return home. He
ended up at my home 4 or 5 different times and each time the police were
called. Also, Children and Youth Services were called and they did not respond. The
final time he called me he stated he was “going to have to break the law”
to get someone’s attention. He met me that night after work at the local mall
with the police. I had called the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) and the NAACP (The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) and then I called the
Children and Youth Services informing them that a discrimination lawsuit would be filed against them since they failed to respond properly on
behalf of the young black man. That very night he was placed in an
excellent foster home by Children and Youth Services.
